Balance with color using Paint Shop Pro 8.0

1. Open Paint Shop Pro
2. Select File New (the blank piece of paper on the top tool bar)
3. Change “image dimensions” from pixels to inches and set width to 4 and height to 5; set the resolution to 75 pixels per inch; set to raster background, background color to “transparent” and “Image Type” to “16.7 million colors 24 bit” (these are the defaults)
4. Click “OK.”
5. Make sure the “Tool Options” palette is turned on – select pulldown menu “View” then “Palettes” then select the “Tool Options” item if it is not already selected.
6. On icon menu at the left side of the screen, select the “Preset Shape” button (or type P) – the tool options palette will now show the word “presets” in the upper left corner of that palette.
7. In the tool options palette for the preset shapes, select the rectangle shape from the pull-down list of preset shapes.
8. Uncheck the box that says “Create as Vector”
9. Uncheck the box “Retain Style”
10. Pick a color from the materials palette – this will be the color of the border around the rectangle – if you do not want a border, select the foreground color as transparent.
11. Set the width of the stroke to 2.0 (on the “Tool Options” menu.
12. Draw one rectangular shape
13. On icon menu at the left side of the screen, select the “Flood Fill” button (it looks like a paint bucket pouring paint)
14. Choose a color to paint with from the color palette
15. In the “Tool Options – Flood Fill” dialogue box, change the “opacity” of the color to something less than 60%
16. Place the cursor (that now will look like a paint bucket pouring) inside the rectangle area and click the left button on the mouse – the color will be dumped inside the rectangle filling it with paint. If you made a mistake and don’t like what you see, select Edit pull down menu and then “Undo Flood Fill.” (or, on the keyboard, hold down the Ctrl key and type Z).
17. Create a new raster layer by selecting the Layers pull-down menu and select “New Raster Layer” click OK when the dialogue box comes up.
18. Draw another rectangle.
19. Fill this rectangle with a different color.
20. Create another new raster layer and draw another rectangle and fill it with another color.
21. Now, when you want to move a rectangle, simply make the layer on which that rectangle was drawn the current layer, select the “Selection” box (the fifth tool down from the top of the tool icons, or simply type S). Then place a box (called a “marquis”) around the rectangle to move and move it to where you want to place it. To turn off the marquis, hold the <Ctrl> key down and type D. If you want to select more than one thing to move, pick the first, then change the current layer to the layer the other object is drawn on, hold down the <Shift> key and select the second object. Repeat for as many objects that you want to move. To erase an object or objects, which are selected, simply hit the <Delete> key on the keyboard.
22. To print select the printer icon, then pick the printer you want to use (suggested is the Color Pro printer) select the box “Fit to Page,” Portrait orientation, then click the “Print” button.
