Introduction to Fiction
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students
learn to analyze, discuss and write critically about the elements of fiction,
plot, character, theme, structure, point of view, setting, symbolism and
style as they occur in the short story and the novel.
TEXTS:
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS REQUIRED: One 3 1/2" disk,
and any collegiate dictionary.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- to demonstrate
a knowledge of basic literary terms and the theory of fiction
- to demonstrate
a basic historical knowledge of the major writers, changes in style
and literary approaches in fiction
- to demonstrate
skills in the analysis and interperetation of short fiction through
essays and tests
