FINAL DISCUSSIONS ABOUT WHAT TO PACK

1.      Squeezy lights;  A & D ointment for blisters

2.      Carry a bottle of water for the plane

3.      Ipod, etc.

4.      Ginger pills; dramamine

THE   “FALL BACK” METHOD   EXPLAINED

1.      If our line of march gets strung out, sometimes this technique can help.

DON’T STOP ‘N’ SHOP

“YOU GUYS GO ON, I’LL CATCH UP, I JUST WANT TO PRICE THIS SOUVENIR FOR ONE SECOND.”  --NOT a good idea. Why not, if you know where the group is headed?

LOST LUGGAGE

  1. FILE A REPORT AT THE AIRPORT:  As soon as you realize your bags are missing, go immediately to the lost-luggage counter and file a report. Get a copy of the report, and write down the name of the person who helps you and the report number.
  2. OBTAIN THE DIRECT PHONE NUMBER OF THE BAGGAGE COUNTER: Airport personnel may give you a toll-free number to call to check on the status of your bags. Take the number, but ask for the number of the lost-baggage counter at the airport itself.
  3. REQUEST COMPENSATION:  Some airlines will cover your immediate cost of essentials, or the airline may give you a toiletries bag to cover your needs.
  4. CALL THE BAGGAGE COUNTER REGULARLY
  5. BE PREPARTED FOR A TWO-DAY DELAY.    If the airline’s next flight to the city you are in is not until the following evening, you may not see your bag for days. Remember to carry a change of underwear, socks, MEDICATIONS, and other private necessities in your carryon. See the information in the handout for the First Meeting.
  6. PURCHASE ANY ITEMS YOU NEED THAT YOU DON’T ALREADY HAVE IN YOUR CARRY-ON BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE AIRPORT. You should be able to use the “compensation” mentioned in No. 3 above for this.

On a personal note . . .

I WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU for your co-operation and helpful suggestions. I hope you can see, I have tried to think of everything and cover all the bases. No doubt I have overlooked some things here and there. Your consideration and help will be greatly appreciated as we go forward.   I really think we have the greatest group that has ever gone on one of these tours.

Will it all be sunlight and roses?  I think so, for the most part. We are going to a lot of places and doing an enormous amount of stuff. There are bound to be bumps in the road, and frustrations from time to time. I apologise ahead of time for those, and I hope we can keep them brief.

Good journey and godspeed to one and all.

In the words of Jack Sparrow:  “Now . . . give me that horizon. Buck up me hearties yo ho!”

See you all on Mar. 12!!    --Dr. Salzman
