Spring Break Trip to
Northern Italy: Venice, Florence and Rome
March 13 to March 22, 1998
Trip includes air transport, all lodging, two meals a day (continental
breakfast and dinner), several guided tours by local guides, all ground
transportation, the services of a full-time local tour director who will
also lead walking tours and sightseeing briefings, and an optional trip to
Pompeii.
Total cost (including in-district tuition) for students under 25
will be $1350
Total cost (including in-district tuition) for students over 25 will be
about $1500
[Europeans custom is to give discounts for students under 25, and
accommodations for those over 25 are slightly different. This price includes
the 1 credit-hour in-district tuition for HUM296, "Northern Italy,"]
Day 1: Overnight flight from Chicago to Milan, Italy.
Day 2: Private motorcoach transports us first to Verona (home of Shakespeare's Romeo and
Juliet). We will tour the city, then continue on to Venice.
Day 3: Guided sightseeing of Venice, including St. Mark's Square, the Grand
Canal, the Bell Tower, the Doges' Palace, and other fascinating places.
Day 4: Transfer by private motorcoach first to Bologna, then on to Florence.
Day 5: In Florence we will start with a private guided walking tour, then have time to visit museums
on our own, or go on an optional excursion to Siena.
Day 6: On first to Assisi for a visit to the Basilica of St. Francis, then travel to Rome.
Day 7: Guided tour of Rome, including the Colosseum, St. Peters, Vatican City including the Sistine Chapel,
the Pantheon, and other sites.
Day 8: Continue to explore Rome, or go on an optional excursion to Pompeii to see an entire Roman city
excavated from the ashes of the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius that buried it in 79 A.D.
Day 9: Fly back from Rome to Chicago.
