What
about ME??? I'm an ADULT - suffice it to say I'm over 25! - and I
don't have the time or energy, what with my committments and job and all,
or the ability to go to school during the day, to finish a traditional
bachelors degree program. |

| Answer: Hey! You're not so different. Did
you know that the average age of students at Triton is about 30 years of
age? That's right. I know that's hard to believe when you're
sitting in class with a group of 19 year-olds, but it's true.
Anyway, there are a variety of programs, many of them run by the local private schools - Elmhurst, Concordia, Dominican, DePaul, Loyola, Roosevelt - just to name a few. Check out their web pages for their adult programs by getting their websites at College Net. If prestige is your bag, check out University Collge at Northwestern University. A bargain for adults who have always wanted a Northwestern Degree but never theought they could afford the $30,000 per year tuition! Many adults, however, are not willing to pay the heavy tuition that private schools charge. For those interested in public school tuition, try Northeastern, Chicago State, or Governors State for the Board of Governors programs. Generally speaking, this program allows you to complete about 80 credit hours at community colleges or from a variety of sources, with only 40 credits of upper division coursework required. All types of courses are acceptable, including the courses that are not designed to transfer usually found in Associate of Applied Science Degrees and Certificates. Students must generally have 12 hours of Social Sciences, 12 hours of Humanities and Fine Arts, and 12 hours of Sciences and/or Math. Additional requirements such as passing a writing, math, and constitution exam may also apply. Overall, Adult programs, also referred to as Non-Traditional Completion programs, make it possible for working adults with many committments to complete a bachelors degree in a minimum amount of time. Go for it! |
