ECE 146: Child, Family and Community

Catalog Description
Concentrates on teacherās role in working with the childās family and
community. Stresses parent education, changing families, cultural
diversity and legal responsibilities. Specifies criteria and methods
for effective parent-teacher-child communication and relationship building.
Includes an in-depth study of community resources and partnership building.
Prerequisite: ECE 110, 111

Course Objectives:

Identify and critique developmentally appropriate anti-bias curriculum

Demonstrate how to establish and maintain a positive home-school
partnership

Improve his/her ability to relate to children and families, including
families from diverse backgrounds and families of children
with special needs

Gather, organize, interpret and evaluate information about community agencies
that serve children and families

Apply National Association for the Education of Young Childrenās code of
ethics to situations.

Demonstrate how to conduct a parent conference.

Identify, describe and plan family 3education programs helping others gain
needed knowledge and skills

Demonstrate ability to communicate, negotiate events/solutions and support
