ECE 233: Creative Activities for the Young Child

Catalog Description:
An in-depth look at the variety of experiences and methods for developing
self-expression and creativity in the young child, focusing on art, music,
and movement. The interrelations of the creative arts and development
and developmentally appropriate practice is emphasized.
Prerequisite: ECE 110,111.
Course Objectives:

Identify the young childās developmental stages in art, movement and music
-
Plan creative activities geared to the developmental level of the young
child, in all creative curriculum areas.

Be able to create and maintain an anti-bias environment, which is conducive
to creative activity.

Communicate and interpret the role of art, music and creative drama in
an integrated curriculum.

Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of developmentally appropriate
instructions and materials for the classroom.

Collect and evaluate a diverse selection of curriculum resources, appropriate
for young children, in the areas of music, art and movement.

Demonstrate the implementation of lesson plans that incorporate developmentally
appropriate objectives in art, music and movement.

Demonstrate an understanding of how children grow and develop by structuring
developmentally appropriate art, music and movement activities for children
agesā birth through eight.

Collect, organize, evaluate and communicate an understanding of developmentally
appropriate creative activities for you children, their growth and development
in these areas, through the development of a portfolio.

Identify, communicate and evaluate curriculum resources and environment
in respect to anti-bias curricula and cultural diversity.
