Hypothesis - In
statistics, a hypothesis is a claim or statement about a property
of a population. A hypothesis statement may be a claim about
parameters such as the mean, standard deviation, population proportion,
etc.
Null Hypothesis
- A statement about the value of a population parameter that must
contain the condition of equality (Equal to, Greater than or equal
to, Less than or equal to).
Alternative Hypothesis
- The statement that must be true if the null hypothesis is false.
Must NOT contain the condition of equality (Not equal to, Greater
than, Less than).
P-Value
- The probability of getting a value
of the sample test statistic that is at least extreme as the one
found from the sample data, assuming that the null hypothesis is
true.(small p-values represent unusual sample results (p-values
that are generally less than or equal to .05. Large p-values represent
sample results that are not unusual, larger than .05)
Test
Statistic -
A value computed from the sample data that is used in making a decision
about the rejection of the null hypothesis.
