Principles of Child Growth and Development
Catalog Course Description:
Lecture ( 1 Hour)
An overview of physical, social/emotional, cognitive
and language development from conception to age five. The significance
of family, peers, school and culture will be emphasized and practically
applied to the young childās individual development.
Course Objectives:
· Describe development characteristics of
children in the physical/motor, emotional/psychological, cognitive, social,
creative
and language domain.
· Identify developmental delays.
· Identify the importance of self-esteem
and describe ways to foster its growth.
· Explain the role of play and ways to
encourage play.
· Begin to describe major theorists and
educational models recognized in the field of Early Childhood.
· Define the role of culture in development.
