Well, what
is there to say, really.
I was born and
raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My father grew up on a farm, moved
to the city with my mother and oldest sister when my oldest brother
was born. He had a sixth grade education and worked as a punch press
operator. My mother had graduated from high school. She stayed home
and raised her seven children. Although I did not realize it at
the time, my family was very poor.
My parents worked
hard to provide their children with a good education, and a loving
home. I left home when I was 17, and eventually was accepted as
a student at the University of Minnesota. I was fortunate to be
named a Martin Luther King, Jr. scholar. The King program became
my home away from home, my advisor and fellow students my family.
I don't know if I would have made it through my undergraduate degree
without all the good avice and friendship I found in the King program.
I finished both
a BA and a MFA degree at the University of Minnesota. More recently
I have taken another master's degree program at Governors State
University here in Illinois. I like going to college. I will probably
keep up my work as a student until I grow up.
I love making
art. I have worked in a number of media. I have had commercial work
published, sold personal work, and would be happy to sell more.
I have a web site that shows a recent body of paintings executed
in encaustic. You can follow the link at the top of the page or
to see my work.
I have been
teaching here at Triton College for seven years. I was awarded outstanding
adjunct faculty member in 2001. I started teaching here full-time
this fall (2003 - yay!). I also serve as the director of the Triton
Art Gallery. You may follow the link at the top of the page or click
here to see a list of the exhibitions scheduled for this year.
Please feel
free to call or stop by my office if you have any questions about
the Art program here at Triton. I enjoy meeting people and discussing
a wide variety of topics.
