Introduction
Why study Statistics ? Statistics are all around us. In fact, an understanding of basic statistics is required for several different major fields of study, such as Psychology, Sociology, Business Management, Biology, Education and several others. The following is just a small sample of issues that involve the use of statistics:

Psychology
Does a persons recall ability improve under the influence of hypnosis?

Education
How can standardized tests be used to measure student performance ?

Media
What percentage of the population was tuned to the Super Bowl ?

Law
Can it be proven that a company is practicing age discrimination in their hiring ?

Political Science
Is there a relationship between a voters political preference and their income level ?

Market Research
What proportion of shoppers made Christmas purchases online this year ?

Sociology
Is the percentage of adults opposed to abortion higher in the Midwest than in the East ?
