Biological Distributed Computing Projects
Distributed computing is a method of running extremely computationally intensive calculations using many individual computers. This allows researchers that do not have access to or the budget for a supercomputer to be able to run models and simulations for a variety of topics. A small program is installed on your computer and when it is idle it will run the needed calculations. Since the program only runs when there are available computing resources, you should not notice any reduced performance, yet valuable results are being produced for the researchers.
