Quiz Information

  • Quizzes are to be taken in WebCt (online)on the designated weeks. Must be completed by midnight on Sunday. You can take the quizzes twice and the better grade will count. Students will get 20 minutes to complete the quizzes and 1 hour for the tests.

Case Study Information

  • All case studies are found in "Case Workbook in Human Genetics. " Writeups should be answer the questions using basic principles described in the associated chapters.
  • Case Studies are due at the end of each week (must be submitted on Sunday by midnight). Be sure to include you name and the case study name for which you are answering the questions for. Try to limit the answers to one page.Bullet out your answers. I am not interested in rambling essays. Be concise. Tell me why, when, how and what.
  • Name the document like this: jgordan1.doc (for case study number 1) and submit it under WebCt under the "Assignments" folder.
  • Email them back to me on WebCt.

  • Read Chapters 1: Introduction
  • Read Chapter 2: Cells.
  • Read through and study web lecture notes (on WebCt).
  • Participate in Threaded Discussion (online atleast once).
  • Case Study 1: Read and turn in questions for grading.

Week 2 Cells/Cell Division/Development

  • Read Chapter 2:Cells
  • Read Chapter 3: Development
  • Take Quiz 1(online-under WebCT)
  • Read through and study web lecture notes (on WebCt)
  • Come in for Labs 1-4 on September 11th,Saturday on campus at Triton.
  • Case Study 2: Read and turn in questions for grading.

Week 3 Mendelian Genetics

  • Read Chapter 4 and read through and study web lecture notes (on WebCt)
  • Lab: FlyLab (assignment 1) and turn in write-up found in BiologyLabsOnline
  • Take quiz 2 online
  • Submit lab write-ups by the 9/18 under "Assignments."
  • Participate in Threaded Discussion (online atleast once).

Week 4 Extensions and exceptions to Mendel's Laws

  • Read Chapter 5
  • Read through and study web lecture notes (on WebCt)
  • Do Lab #5: FlyLab and submit under "Assignments"
  • Take Test 1 ( covers chapters 1-4)

Week 5 Matters of Sex

  • Read Chapter 6 and WebCt Lecture Notes
  • Read Chapter 9:DNA Structure and Replication
  • Read through and study web lecture notes (on WebCt)
  • Take Quiz 3
  • Do Pedigree Lab at BiologyLabsonline.com and submitt.

Week 6DNA Structure and Replication

  • Read Chapter 10 : Gene Action-From DNA to Protein
  • Read through and study web lecture notes (on WebCt)
  • Take Quiz 4
  • Case Study 3: Read and turn in questions for grading.
    • "DNA Replication " : Page 38 of "Case Workbook"
  • Participate in threaded discussion.

Week 7 Gene action

  • Read Chapter 11: Controll of gene expression
  • Read Chapter 12:Gene Mutation
  • Take Quiz 5
  • LAB: Translation Lab (Assignment 1) and turn write-up. Lab is found online at BiologyLabsOnline

Week 8 Genes and chromosomes
